JOB SUMMARY: The Driller will perform core drilling services for a seasonal minerals exploration project. Core drilling is a mechanism designed to rotate and to cause an annular-shaped rock-cutting bit to penetrate rock formations, produce cylindrical cores of the formations penetrated, and lift such cores to the surface, where they may be collected and examined. Prior experience in Alaska\u2019s rural construction industry is preferred but not required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Mobilize in setting up drill sites. Operate a core drilling rig 12-14 hours per day, working shifts where you will remain at the project site in remote locations and adverse weather conditions for periods of time. Prepare daily reports of all drilling activities. Perform and document daily pre-shift inspections. Perform and document maintenance and repairs on company equipment and vehicles. Perform trade for long hours, day after day, often in adverse conditions, to complete the project at hand. Follow directives from Project Management team, with the sense of duty to take initiative and remain productive at work at all times while on the jobsite. Perform physical labor that requires considerable use of one\u2019s arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials at construction sites. Work as a \u201cteam-player\u201d with co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS: This position may supervise drilling assistants. Job Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Basic knowledge of materials, terms and practices in construction field. Basic knowledge of drilling mud fluid and the nature of core drilling. Ability to extract suitable core samples from depths down to 5,000 feet. Complete knowledge of mechanics as related to drill rigs, diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics and electrical systems. Ability to handle and carry heavy wrenches, tools and supplies. Ability to operate levers with both hands. Ability to safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle. Proficiency with hand and power tools. Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management. Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule. Ability to work productively under pressure. Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, and specifications. Ability to travel to remote places for work related purposes (up to 100% of time) and remain on project site for 14 to 30 days at a time. Ability to communicate with employees working on the drill site. Ability to live and work with co-workers in close quarters and keep good morale. Ability to participate in group meetings. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year\u00a0previous experience as a continuous core driller. 5000-23 Surface Miner Certification dated within the past 5 years. Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively. Ability to crawl, squat, carry materials for extensive periods of time. Possess a valid state driver\u2019s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company\u2019s Driving Policy. Ability to pass a physical and functional agility test, and pulmonary function test. Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screening.
