Role synopsis:
BP Alaska will be conducting a Technician Campaign for Maintenance Technicians (Electricians). We will be filling 1 role with remaining shortlisted candidates to be on a list for future external Electrician vacancies throughout 2018.
The Electrical Technician will play a key role in providing a high degree of technical competence and working knowledge of the current national electrical code with responsibility for safety and environment compliance.
As a prerequisite of employment, candidates that accept offers of employment from BP Alaska must successfully complete a Fitness-for-Duty assessment that is based on the essential physical requirements of the job.
This is a Union represented position with a 2 x 2 remote rotational position located in Prudhoe bay, Alaska (North Slope). The company chartered flights will supply transportation to and from the North Slope and Anchorage. All BP employees are responsible for any and all costs associated with getting themselves to and from their residence and Anchorage.

Key accountabilities:
Perform preventative maintenance on low and medium voltage switchgear motors, power distribution systems, heat-trace systems and HVAC systems, and batteries
Troubleshoot and identify equipment problems and obtain any necessary support
Perform work on power generation systems
Perform work on fire and gas detection systems, as required
Maintain knowledge of field electrical equipment
Provide leadership and safe practices through operations integrity assurance systems and its components
Manage daily work schedule utilizing computerized maintenance management system, providing technical advice and quality control
Provide work coordination with other projects and crafts
Participate in pre-job, safety compliance and tool box safety meetings
Review and authorize any job procedures developed by the team
Maintain responsibility for safety and environmental compliance
Respond to emergency needs in the facility
Essential Education:
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
Desirable criteria and qualifications:
Experience working as an industrial maintenance electrical
Experience working as a journeyman electrician
Experience working in an oil processing or petrochemical maintenance environment
Completion of an accredited apprenticeship
Current Alaska Fire System Permit Level 1B
Current Alaska State Electrical Administrators License
Current International Association of Electrical Inspector's License

Essential experience and job requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of industrial/petrochemical electrical maintenance experience or an Associate's Degree in a technical field and 3 years of industrial/petrochemical electrical maintenance experience
Experience working on the North Slope
Current Alaska, or reciprocal state, Electrical Certificate of Fitness
(Journeyman) or the ability to obtain the certification within 6 months. Reciprocal states include: AR, CO, MN, MT, OK, NE, NH, NM, ND, SD, UT, WA, WY)
Working knowledge of:
electrical theory, print reading and interpretation
DCS/SCADA PLC programming and troubleshooting
NEC code
Experience working with:
low and medium voltage circuit breakers
Willing and able to:
Independently lift and carry tools, parts, supplies and equipment weighing upwards of 90 pounds on an occasional basis and upwards of 60 pounds on a frequent basis
Meet OSHA requirements and wear a full body harness and an anti-fall equipment with clothes, boots, hard hat and tools while not exceeding a weight greater than 310 pounds
Work in a variety of postures and positions throughout the work period to include kneeling, squatting, bending, prone or supine
Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus, respirator or escape pack, if needed in an emergency situation
Independently transition to and from the ground without the aid of a stationary object for support, sustain prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces (both level and unlevel) as well as steel grating, snow, ice and mud
With or without reasonable accommodation, to:
work from the ground to overhead heights, as well as in relatively tight confines and in areas that are classed as confined space entry
routinely climb stairs and ladders to extended heights
work at extremes of heat and cold, and with dust and fumes
open and close small and large valves requiring upwards of 150 foot pounds of force
Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location):
Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Current valid driver’s license.
Currently reside in, able to relocate to, or willing to commute to Anchorage, AK without company assistance.
