Performs rigging engineer duties in support of SRR Construction, Operations and Maintenance initiatives. Candidate will interface with applicable organizations (i.e. Engineering, Supervision, Operations, Design) to perform assigned tasks requiring a full working knowledge of all rigging practices.
Responsibilities: Understand and interpret the Department of Energy (DOE) Hoisting and Rigging Standard.
Understand and interpret the Savannah River Site (SRS) Hoisting and Rigging Manual.
Understand and implement the Liquid Waste procedure for crane use.
Act as the designee for the Liquid Waste Rigging Authority.
Serve, as requested, on the SRS Hoisting and Rigging Committee.
Review and approve critical and ordinary lift plans to ensure procedural compliance.
Provide technical direction to craftsmen who are executing the lift plans.
Provide training to craftsmen on lift plan implementation and procedural compliance.
Provide direction and training to less experienced engineers.
Ability to read and interpret a variety of crane load charts and apply load deductions to lift plans
Perform assessments of rigging program attributes to ensure procedural compliance.
Provide interface with applicable organizations for safety and/or security concerns affecting hoisting and rigging activities.
Manages and coordinates on an ongoing basis with field engineering staff to resolve problems and support project management needs.
Represents Construction in project planning or other site related meetings providing recommendations and influencing outcomes.
Supports design planning meetings and walk downs. Provides advanced conceptual design and constructability reviews. Facilitates timely issue of design packages and changes by advanced problem solving.
Provides subject matter expert support in coordination of design/construction to resolve design problems of high complexity. Recommends design change options. Reviews/approves design changes.
Coordinates, performs, and supports walk downs with applicable personnel to formulate work package planning and hazard identification.
Monitors compliance with policies, procedures and regulations. Makes recommendations as necessary to improve compliance conditions.
Participates in pre-job briefs (conducts or supports) to ensure workers and support organizations understand scope, hazards, mitigations and expectations. Ensures all questions or concerns are addressed.
Monitors field activities and provides field support to crafts during implementation. Provides support for resolution of issues through direct interface with workers and/or supervision and coordination with support organizations. Provides direction to workers as needed and serves as a mentor to less experienced Construction Engineers.
Performs field inspection support to ensure compliance to design specifications (materials, configuration), procedures, guides and National Codes and Standards.
May perform the role of discipline SME (Subject Matter Expert)
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 15 years practical rigging engineer experience OR;
Associates degree in a technical field with 15 years practical rigging engineer experience OR;
High school diploma/GED with 15 years practical rigging engineer experience.
Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen
Registered Professional Engineer
Design below-the-hook lifting devices in accordance with ASME BTH-1
