Role synopsis:
BP Alaska will be conducting a Technician Campaign for Maintenance Technicians (Mechanics). We will be filling 5 roles with remaining shortlisted candidates to be on a list for future external Mechanic vacancies throughout 2018.
The Mechanical Maintenance Technician will have a high degree of technical competence and working knowledge of rotating equipment. The position holder will repair mechanical equipment, oversee crews within operating facilities and will be responsible for safety and environmental compliance.
As a prerequisite of employment, candidates that accept offers of employment from BP Alaska must successfully complete a Fitness-for-Duty assessment that is based on the essential physical requirements of the job.
This is a Union represented position with a 2 x 2 remote rotational position located in Prudhoe bay, Alaska (North Slope). The company chartered flights will supply transportation to and from the North Slope and Anchorage. All BP employees are responsible for any and all costs associated with getting themselves to and from their residence and Anchorage.

Key accountabilities:
Repair mechanical equipment such as industrial and aero derivative turbines, process compressors, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic actuators, air compressors, fin fans, hydraulic accumulators, heat, ventilation and air handling units.
Attend pre-job meetings, safety compliance and running tool box safety meetings.
Conduct parts research and ordering, as well as work coordination with other projects and crafts.
Provide technical advice, quality control, problem solving, troubleshooting and repair recommendations.
Manage customer and vendor interface, task completion, post-job meetings and writing of final reports.
Ensure safety and environmental compliance
Operate and provide safe practices through the operations integrity assurance systems and its components.
Understand consequences of equipment failure and repair errors. Participate in defect elimination and continuous improvement processes.
Respond to emergency needs in the facilities and bring to completion any jobs requiring repair.
Recognize, troubleshoot and identify equipment problems and obtain any necessary support.
Review and authorize procedures developed by the team.
Respond to emergencies or changes in priorities.
Competent in using Maximo to create tasks, order materials and properly complete work orders.
Play an Integral role in the AP (VIZIYA) Scheduling flow working with Maintenance Planners and Schedulers to properly align tasks.
Involved in drafting and risk assessing work permits and responsible for following BP’s Control of Work (CoW) work permitting process.
Essential Education:
A high School Diploma or equivalent.
Desirable criteria and qualifications:
Associate's Degree in a technical field.
Experience as a journeyman mechanical technician responsible for rotating equipment.
Experience working with some or all of the following equipment: industrial turbines, aero derivative turbines, centrifugal pumps, electrical generators.
Certification from an accredited trade organization, school, union or military entity.
Experience in the oil and gas industry.
Experience working on the North Slope of Alaska or in similar arctic conditions.
Ability to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus, respirator or escape pack, if needed in an emergency situation.

Essential experience and job requirements:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance in an industrial facility.
Willingness and ability to:
Independently lift and carry tools, parts, supplies and equipment weighing upwards of 50 pounds.
With or without reasonable accommodation, to push/pull on wrenches, tools, carts, etc. requiring upwards of 150 foot pounds of force.
Meet OSHA requirements and wear a full body harness and anti-fall equipment with clothes, boots, hard hat and tools while not exceeding a weight greater than 310 pounds.
Work in a variety of postures and positions throughout the work period to include kneeling, squatting, bending, prone or supine.
Independently transition to and from the ground without the aid of a stationary object for support, sustain prolonged periods of standing and walking on hard surfaces (both level and unlevel) as well as steel grating, snow, ice and mud.
With or without reasonable accommodation, to routinely climb a copious amount of stairs and ladders to extended heights.
With or without reasonable accommodation, to work at extremes of heat and cold, and with dust and fumes.
Assume a leadership role, as needed
Work independently or in a team environment.
Work a 12 hour day/night shift with a 2/2 weeks on/off rotational schedule on the North Slope of Alaska.
Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location):
Comprehensive working knowledge of industrial turbines and aero-derivative turbines, centrifugal, compressors and especially the ancillary equipment that support a turbine / compressor.
Experience with machinery alignment utilizing dial indicator and optical laser alignment tools.
Underpinning working knowledge of mechanical seals.
Ability to read and understand P&IDs and technical manuals.
Ability to draw, read and interpret mechanical drawings.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Current valid driver’s license.
Currently reside in, able to relocate to, or willing to commute to Anchorage, AK without company assistance.
