The Category Specialist (CS) plays a supporting role in realising Downstream Procurementâ€™s (DP) objective to become a world-class procurement organisation with leading capability in category management that delivers relevant, value-adding category strategies to BPâ€™s Downstream businesses. The CS provides dedicated category strategy development and implementation support to the Category Manager (CM). Working with colleagues in the business interface teams, they are responsible for engaging business stakeholders to understand business priorities and requirements, and ensure category strategies and implementation aligns with those needs.
The primary focus of the CS role is to support the Category Manager to define category strategies by performing analysis and co-ordinating key inputs (e.g. supply market analysis, cost modelling and benchmarking). The CS also supports the Category Manager to implement the category strategy at a site or market level by managing the localization of the category strategy, sourcing activities and contract management to agreed timelines, and supplier management activities. They are also responsible for supporting the category manager in delivering value to the business by ensuring compliance with agreed category strategies and sourcing expectations. Ultimately they are responsible for the execution of all of these activities to deliver the objective of providing the business with a supply base that supports safe, reliable and compliant operations, and that also delivers the innovation and business benefits agreed in the category strategy.
The CS is a member of the broader Americas Maintenance Services category team, which provides support to multiple business units in the Americas; Cherry Point Refinery, Whiting Refinery, Toledo Refinery, Cooper River Petrochemical Plant, Texas City Petrochemical Plant, and U.S. Pipelines & Logistics. This team is responsible for the management of approximately $900m of third party spend per year, across a vast array of Maintenance, Turnaround, and Capital Project Construction services categories, including but not limited to; mechanical, piping, electrical & instrumentation, civil, scaffolding, industrial cleaning, insulation, coatings, refractory, rental equipment, tanks, inspection, facilities, catalyst handling, valve repair, equipment repair, and safety services.

Stakeholder Management Support
Supports the objective of no compromise on safe and compliant operations
Manage the interface between category strategy development and implementation by the delivery organization, working in partnership with Category Excellence, GBS, Business Interface and Business teams
Lead the development of communication content to ensure that category specific messages (such as status, plans, compliance, and market insights) are effectively disseminated across the DP organization
Provide category guidance, advice, and coaching to business stakeholders and more junior members of the DP team
Category Strategy & Implementation Support
Responsible for achieving Value Delivery in the assigned category, including Value Delivery tracking from the category strategy implementation
Lead the development of category strategies for low complexity categories (dependent on category scope and seniority of Category Specialist)
Support CM to ensure a deep expertise within the category area, by accessing MI and external knowledge to ensure the category strategy is informed by an intimate knowledge of the supply market, key dynamics, the latest thinking within the field, cost modeling, and benchmarking
Working with the global category network, supports the development of new and innovative global sources of supply, and working with the business interface organization, helps to build understanding and support for new sources of supply in the business
Working with the business interface organization, routinely communicates with integrity across key business stakeholders to align the strategic intent of the category strategy and the regional/local business needs
Support CM by managing category strategy implementation activities including localization of category strategies and contract management
Support CM to ensure timeliness and quality of all contracts required for safe, compliant and reliable business operations i.e. implementation in the appropriate systems, category compliance, contract management and requisitioners training
Ensure compliance to BP policies such as risk management, delegation of authority and DP functional guidelines
Responsible for the development and delivery of annual plans for category and scope
Sourcing and Supplier Management
Lead local and regional contract negotiation & execution, as well as supplier management activities
Execute sourcing (high-medium complexity categories) and oversee sourcing execution by GBS (low-medium complexity categories)
Support business in contract holder roles, gather performance feedback (and variation requests) for input to supplier performance review
Bachelorâ€™s degree in a technical or related business discipline or relevant years of experience required
Desirable criteria and qualifications:
MCIPS/ISM qualification, or at stage of pre-qualification
Experience in Ariba e-sourcing or other e-procurement tools
Good working knowledge of P2P processes
Demonstrable experience in the relevant category i

Essential experience and job requirements:
5 â€“ 6 years relevant experience required
Experience in sourcing, contracting and contract management; in tactical procurement and supplier management
